Three and In – New Signing Frenzy

Typical, you wait ages for a close season signing, and then three turn up at once. After some protracted making their mind up time over their summer trialists Rovers have gone and snapped up three of them in one day, in arguably the biggest signing frenzy since the BBC mistakenly broadcast a Scatman John video during their See Hear programme. Continue reading

Brown Again – Chris Makes Rovers Return

It is an understood law in football that you should never go back to a club once you have left. Its reasoned logic, for if you were unsuccessful in your first spell then chances are there will be a low tolerance of any sub-par performances on your return (hello Mark Wilson), and if you had a profitable period first time around then the pressure is on to reproduce the magic. Chris Brown, who joined Rovers today from Preston, is very much in the latter of those categories, and he will return to Doncaster looking to recreate the highs of 2003-04. Continue reading

Stock Future

Though its been understood for a while, the news Rovers supporters have been waiting for finally became official today as captain Brian Stock agreed a new contract with the club. Stock has committed to a new two and a half year deal which will keep him with Doncaster Rovers until 2013. Continue reading

Killa Captured

A fitting headline in more ways than one this, as the signing of Matt Kilgallon has seen Rovers fans exihibit many of the same traits exalted by residents when a killer loose in the neighbourhood is captured. Joy, relief that the ordeal is over (ordeal in this case represented by two week’s worth of messagboard rumour-mongering), and a resolution and determination to return to normality. Continue reading

Healy Loan Extension

I know what you’re thinking. Where’s the now customary Viva Rovers ‘pun’ of a headline? Well the truth is I couldn’t think of a good one, so I thought why put us both through unnecessary torture. Anyway, don’t let this shock move take away from the story itself and the news that David Healy is extending his loan spell at Doncaster Rovers by a further month. The forward who was initially set to return to Sunderland this week will now remain at the Keepmoat Stadium until the New Year. Continue reading

Easy For Dennis

As the old saying goes, why have a possible six centre halves, when you could have seven?  Rovers have today added another body to their defensive ranks with the signing of Brazilian central defender Dennis Souza. Joining on a short-term contract, Souza will be with the Rovers until February pending international clearance being granted by someone or other. Continue reading

Healy Does it

So, what do you do when your £1million striker is set to be out injured for a month? Yep you bring in another £1million striker. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to be convinced that I am still writing a humble Doncaster Rovers based web-blog. But that I am, and in doing so I am able to be about the fifth piece of media today to tell you that it has actually happened; Rovers have brought in loan cover for Billy Sharp in the form of Sunderland forward David Healy. Continue reading

No Payne No Gain

Great headline, disappointing story. Rovers midfielder Josh Payne currently on loan at Oxford United has agreed to make his move to the Kassam Stadium permanent come the January transfer window. Payne, who only joined Rovers in the Summer having been released by West Ham, will leave owning one of the best goals per game ratios of anyone to have ever represented Doncaster. The midfielder started and scored against Accrington Stanley in the League Cup, a match which now represents his only ever appearance for Rovers. Continue reading

Mason Called to Arms

Typical. You think you’ve got your Doncaster Rovers related website brought neatly up to date ahead of the weekend, and then the club go and sign a player out of the blue. Rovers have today strengthened their attacking options by bringing in the concerningly young-looking Ryan Mason from Tottenham Hotspur on an unspecific loan deal. Continue reading

Wayne Right

Yep, a genuine transfer shock. Not the signing of Wayne Thomas, but Viva Rovers not opting to use the headline Wayne’s World. It of course has been no secret that Doncaster have been looking to sign defender Wayne Thomas for some time. The centre-back impressed against Sheffield Wednesday and West Bromwich Albion whilst on trial with Rovers pre-season and it has since seemingly just been a matter of agreeing personal terms with the player to get him to the Keepmoat Stadium. Continue reading
