Doncaster Rovers Belles 2-2 Birmingham City Ladies

“Pay what you think” said the flyer for today’s game, so it’s probably well that I took this game in on my own rather than in the same company with which I’d seen the Belles face Lincoln City last week. As entertaining as it would have been watching Matt trying to pay with inappropriate thoughts about Doncaster full-back Maria Karlsson I suspect there would have been a point when awkwardness crept in. Sounding Out The Belles

A line often trotted out on Rovers related messageboards when attendances are down is that the town doesn’t deserve the club; that the people are under-appreciative of the football being played on their own doorstep. Whilst there may be some truth in that statement, it is a theory much more applicable to the Doncaster Rovers Belles. So whilst most Doncastrians got their football fix in their front room last night, watching Tottenham marauder through eleven men perturbing to be the Scottish side Hearts, I took an overdue trip to the Keepmoat Stadium for a first taste of the town’s only top flight sports team. Everton 1-1 Doncaster Rovers Belles

The Belles continued their unbeaten start to the new FA Women’s Super League with a point on the road at Everton last night. The 1-1 draw at Marine’s Arriva Stadium follows last week’s 1-0 win at Lincoln to keep Doncaster at the right end of the table. Precious Hamilton gave the Belles the lead four minutes in, a goal eventually levelled by the Toffee’s Natasha Dowie. Despite a late Everton onslaught the Belles held firm for a point though to move second in the division behind Chelsea. Further details on the game can be found on the Belles’ own website.

Lincoln Ladies 0-1 Doncaster Rovers Belles

Doncaster Rovers Belles got off to a great start in the new FA Women’s Super League last night with victory in their opening game. The Belles defeated Lincoln Ladies at Sincil Bank thanks to a goal from long serving player Vicky Exley on the stroke of half-time. Continue reading

Belle du Jour

Great news today for Doncaster’s premier football club today. Nope, not the Rovers, but the much more successful Doncaster Rovers Belles. Today the Football Association announced the eight founder members for the Women’s Super League and delightedly, and deservedly, Doncaster Rovers Belles were amongst those chosen. The Belles will line-up alongside Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, Birmingham City, Bristol Academy and Lincoln Ladies in the new league which is set to launch in the Summer 2011. Arsenal Ladies 8-1 Doncaster Rovers Belles

Precious Hamilton, set-up the Belles replyA disappointing afternoon in the capital for the Belles this weekend as they were on the receiving end of the reigning champions frustration. Thanks to a swathe of postponed matches due to international commitments this was only Arsenal’s second game of the FA Women’s Premier League season and they seemed determined to make up for lost time as they ran out 8-1 winners at Borehamwood’s Meadow Park ground. Belles Round Up

Belles striker Liz Hansen

Thanks to a bout of over efficiency from Football Data Co and the FA plus a busy month at work (yep, I know its hard to believe, but this isn’t the day job) some of the more expansive elements of Viva Rovers’ output have been neglected recently. In fact we’ve come over all Charlton Athletic and completely shelved our female football commitments since September (trust us that joke would have killed round Hope Powell’s house). Anyway to readdress the balance, here is what you have missed; Continue reading

Doncaster Rovers Belles 2-2 Watford Ladies

Precious Hamilton; scorer of the Belles second goal

Doncaster Rovers Belles’ start to the new FA Tesco Women’s Premier League season is going much the way of their male contemporaries start to the Championship. Held by Watford at the Keepmoat Stadium today the Belles have now drawn their opening two fixtures and will be frustrated not to have made a better start to the campaign, particularly after leading 2-0 at half-time against the Hornets. Continue reading

Doncaster Rovers Belles 1-1 Blackburn Rovers

The Doncaster Rovers Belles had a frustrating start to the new FA Womens Premier League season today as they were held at home by Blackburn Rovers, a match which they would have been expecting to take all three points from given the two sides’ respective league placings last season. Continue reading

Belles Back on the Ball

Whilst Rovers have progressed gradually upwards over the course of the last decade many folk often forget that the town already has a top flight football team of its own, and has done for a long time. The Doncaster Rovers Belles begin their season this Sunday as they host Blackburn Rovers in the FA Womens Premier League. Long established in the women’s game the Belles have twice been Premier League champions and six time FA Cup winners, not to mention countless other honours and final appearances. Continue reading
