Viva Rovers Celebrates Two Years of Independence

Happy birthday to us, Happy birthday to us, Happy birthday Viva Rovers, Happy birthday to us. A huge cake in the shape of Leo Fortune-West has arrived at Viva Towers this morning, because the 15th July 2011 marks the two year anniversay of our relaunch as an independent website.

Viva originally existed as the Doncaster Rovers section of the Rivals Network, having taken over from Donny Massive in July 2006. However, after three steady years on the net – in a decision very much in-keeping with the now more widely known ethics of News International – S*y S***ts decided, without prior announcement to editors or readers, to pull the plug on the Rivals Network on 1st July 2009. Not prepared to rollover, and despite offers from other networks, we decided to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and go it alone, and as such relaunched Viva Rovers two years ago today. Obviously we’re biased, but it appears to have been a good decision.

To celebrate our this anniversary we’ve decided to bring you some of the highlights of Viva Rovers’ second year in existence. As such I’ve raided the Viva archives and plucked from the dusty shelves six of the best articels to have graced this site since July 2010, a mixture of the most read and most enjoyed plus a couple of my own favourites;

6. Popular Stand; On Managerial Terms

5. Match Report: Sheffield United 2-2 Doncaster Rovers

4. Longing for All or Nothing; the Pursuit of a Football Free Summer

3. Why Sean O’Driscoll was right to stay at Doncaster

2. Mastiff Error of Judgement; On Donny Dog

1. Mustapha Dumbuya; Championship Hero

Of course all this would have been pointless if you lot were not reading what we’re churning out. Viva Rovers has had over 56,000 visitors, in the past twelve months according to our counter, although two dozen of those did arrive here having Googled in the hope of obsure dog or mascot based filfth. So from all of us here at Viva Towers (which most of you will have now realised is just me, but we stick with the plural for added sense of gravitas)… thank you for taking the time to visit this site, and here’s to another year ahead.
