Three’s Company – FA Cup draw

And to think people said ITV’s football output is terrible. These people obviously hadn’t ventured on the channel’s staging of the FA Cup third round draw at an unnecessarily floodlit Wembley this evening. Notable established football commentators Serge from Kasabian and Noel Gallagher pitched up in their best t-shirts and leather jackets to tease Jim Rosenthal with incoherent speech and empty sentiments such as “It doesn’t get any better than this”. It obviously does. And Jim Rosenthal will have been thinking as much as he desperately tossed questions Serge’s way only to see them rebound away uninterestingly. He may as well have interviewed the balls.

Anyway, television production aside this was the third round draw and it has handed Rovers a pretty decent tie. Not necessarily one for glitz and glamour and not one likely to bring the TV cameras to the Keepmoat Stadium, but one which certainly makes the 4th round an achievable target. Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers will come to face the Rovers on the second weekend in January and with their priorities certainly set on staying in the top flight its unlikely Doncaster will face the strongest Wolves side. Could this be the season for a long-awaited FA Cup run? Lets hope so, and lets not speak of this televised draw again.
