Queens Park Rangers 3-0 Doncaster Rovers

Funnily enough, the combination of expensive entry prices and a team managed by Neil Warnock failed to tempt us at Viva Rovers to shell out and attend this fixture. You can call us fickle by all means, but when you’re on a budget watching Warnock hop about on the touchline as he takes charge of his latest “good honest set of lads” is an expenditure you can do without.

So, as we weren’t there we will give you just a highly abridged version of events. The general consensus is that Rovers played well, very well and for a large swathe of this game they were every bit as good as their league leading hosts. Indeed Doncaster almost took the lead midway through the half as Martin Woods hit an excellent long range free-kick which struck the woodwork and came back out into the path of James O’Connor who looked set to turn it into the unguarded net only for Kyle Walker to appear and clear.

Rovers resolve was undone eight minutes after the break from a set piece as Kasper Gorkss headed a corner goalwards, and though his initial effort was blocked the rebound fell at his feet and he blasted it home. Again Rovers pushed for a way back in, but again a shot against the woodwork was as close as they came, this time Jamie Coppinger hitting the frame of the goal.

However, all Rovers good work and good play would go unrewarded as QPR added two more goals in the final eight minutes. Firstly Heider Helgsuon beat the offside trap only to be upended by Neil Sullivan. Adel Taarabt took the spot-kick and found the net to make it 2-0. Three minutes from time Rangers struck a third and final goal as Gorkss headed in his second from a deep corner, and Rovers were left on the wrong end of another undeserved scoreline.
