World at their Feet

The R'sonists 2006 WorldNET squad

Good luck from Viva Rovers to the long-serving Doncaster Rovers Supporters football team the Donny R’sonists who travel to Leeds this weekend to take part in the annual WorldNET tournament. For the R’sonists, formed in 1998, this is their 13th appearance at the annual Summer event which features over 80 supporters teams from all over the UK and a handful from overseas too.

The R’sonists squad for this year features two players who have played in each and every tournament since the team’s debut in 1998, with both Alan Brown and Matt Smith still yet to hang up the boots. For yours truly this will be an 11th appearance in Leeds, having made my WorldNET debut as a 17 year-old in 2000. It all seems a horribly long time ago.

The tournament has a group stage on the Saturday, with all the teams progressing to the knock-out competition on the Sunday. The top two teams from each group going to the Cup competition with the bottom two going through to the Plate. The incentive for avoiding the Plate is simple, their opening Sunday games kick-off at 8:30am. The R’sonists will have it tough this year paired with West Brom ‘A’, Bury ‘B’ and Irish side Castlerock in their group.
