Ex-Rovers centre-half Dave Morley won’t have to pay for a drink in North Wales tonight. Morley scored the equalising goal as Welsh premier League side Bangor City came from behind to beat FC Honka of Finland in the UEFA Europa League at Wrexham. After a surprise 1-1 draw in Finland in the first leg tie, Bangor went behind in the 2nd leg played at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground, and were still trailing 1-0 with six minutes to go. However, that’s when Morley struck, as the centre half found the net to set up a tense final five minutes, which culminated in an injury-time goal from Chris Jones which won it for Bangor.
City will play Portuguese side Maritimo in the next round, and Morley, who scored Rovers’ second goal in the 2003 Conference Play-Off Final win, will most certainly play a part in the game. This win for Bangor City follows last night’s victory for TNS over Bohemians in the Champions League in what has been a great week for Welsh club football.
