Viva (Independent) Rovers

Today is an important day in Viva Rovers’ own calendar, as the 15th July 2010 marks a year since this site went it alone. Originally existing as the Doncaster Rovers section of the Rivals Network, having taken over from Donny Massive in July 2006, Viva Rovers had trundled along happily for three years until 1st July 2009 when S*y S***ts decided, without prior announcement to editors or readers, to pull the plug on the Rivals Network . Not prepared to rollover, and despite offers from other networks, we decided to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and go it alone, and we relaunched Viva Rovers a year ago today.

Obviously we’re biased, but it appears to have been a good decision. We have retained a good following of loyal readers, and also received national acknowledgement in December as well when we were given a Bronze in the When Saturday Comes Web Awards.  Of course all this would have been pointless if you lot were not reading, over 35,000 visits, in the past twelve months according to our counter, and only fifteen of those came here by mistake having Googled “pictures of Debbie Harry”. To add further good news, we have also received much more of the content we feared had been lost in the S*y Rivals shutdown, and we intend to be uploading more of this in the coming weeks.

So from all of us here at Viva Rovers (which most of you will have now realised is just me, but we stick with the plural for added sense of gravitas)… thank you for taking the time to visit this site, and here’s to another year ahead.
