Rovers have today announced what is in many ways the perfect signing for a such a pun-laden website as our own, with the news that defender George Friend has joined the club. The twenty-two year old left-back arrives at Rovers from Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers , though the length of his contract has not actually been confirmed on the club website.
Friend began his career at Exeter City, coming through the youth system there before making his debut in the Conference in 2006. In the 2007-08 season Friend was an integral part of the Grecian’s squad that clinched promotion back to the Football League leading to a move to Wolves in the early part of the following season. Though he made a number of appearances for Wanderers in the Championship winning season, he has struggled to make an impact on the first team since their promotion to the Premier League and spent much of last season out on loan.
