The club’s pre-season schedule has edged towards a complete picture in the last week with Rovers confirming a few more dates for the July diary. At the centre of Doncaster’s 2010/11 season preparations sits the Joma Cup, a week-long tournament in Devon. Rovers have fared well in pre-season tournaments in the past and for a long period they were the club’s main source of silverware as the trinkets returned from the Gateshead Tournament, the Minster Carpets Cup and the Yorkshire Electricity Cup testify.
The Joma South West Challenge Cup to give the tournament its full title takes place between Monday 19th and Sunday 25th July at a number of non-league grounds in the North of the county. Rovers are the highest ranked of the English sides taking place, though they will be joined by Scottish Premier League team Kilmarnock. The other clubs taking part are Leyton Orient, Shrewsbury Town, Accrington Stanley, Rushden & Diamonds, Barnstaple Town, Bideford, Eastleigh, Havant & Waterlooville, Ilfracombe Town and Truro City.
In addition to this jaunt to the South West Rovers have a further four pre-season friendlies already confirmed, beginning with the annual community game on 7th July. After past matches with Rossington Main and Armthorpe Welfare, Rovers will this year begin their season by playing the town’s other Northern Counties East League side Askern Villa. Next up is a far from meaty tie against Quorn FC at the University of Warwick on 14th July, before a trip to play Notts County at Meadow Lane. Having drawn County in the League Cup first round for two successive seasons this will be a venue much familiar to Rovers fans as they head there on 17th July. Doncaster’s pre-season calendar currently ends with a home game against Premier League West Bromwich Albion at the Keepmoat Stadium on 27th July.
