The World Cup and Doncaster Rovers. In the Venn Diagram the central section would be the tiniest slither of overlapping circle containing only David Mulligan’s inclusion in this year’s New Zealand squad and a hazy anecdote about Harry Gregg. Until now, when those two pawns in this diagram have been joined by an even more tenuous link, in the form of two Rovers supporters and a video camera.
People said folk from my school year wouldn’t amass to much, but this week they’ve been proved significantly wrong. Not content with producing the writer of a Doncaster Rovers based website infamously described as high-brow, now the Rossington Comprehensive School Class of 2009 has spawned two more minor celebrities. Yep, two of my former class-mates and school football team-mates were this week in the Doncastrian press having won tickets to the World Cup finals.
The two lads in question Allan Riggall and Mark Corden, Rovers fans and previous Donny R’sonists players both of them, won a nationwide competition to win tickets to South Africa run by Coca-Cola. The competition asked football fans to film their own goal celebrations and send them in with the best entry getting flights, accommodation and tickets to England’s group game with USA. So in case you missed it, this week’s Viva Video brings you their winning entry. Congratulations lads, enjoy your trip.
