One Call Insurance were today announced as Doncaster Rovers new shirt sponsors for the next three seasons, replacing Wright Investments whose own three year shirts sponsorship deal comes to an end in the Summer. Though the figures have not been fully disclosed the deal is suggested to be worth more than £2million across it’s duration. As any Rovers fan will tell you its not the first time that One Call Insurance have sponsored the Rovers’ kit, although in its announcement earlier today the official club website told folk a slightly different story to the one you would have got from most fans.
One Call Insurance were Rovers’ shirt sponsors when the club reverted back to it’s traditional red and white hoops ahead of the 2001-02 season, their logo sitting slap bang in the middle of a kit voted for by the fans. It may have been nine years and four divisions ago, but surely someone at the club would have acknowledged this fact rather than allowing the following statement to appear on the official club website; “One Call Insurance are partners of the Club already and have been associated with Doncaster Rvers’ kit before, previously sponsoring the club’s shorts in 2008 when the club won promotion to the Championship”. Surely we should be acknowledging the long-term investment of our club sponsors? Nitpicking I may be here, but if you were to ask someone from One Call Insurance’s PR team to show you images of their past sponsorship investments I’m sure they’d be more likely to produce a picture of Paul Barnes wheeling away in celebration, rather than a shot of Mark McCammon’s back side.
