Viva Video LXIII

Don’t panic, don’t panic. You’re regular Friday fix of football action is here just in the nick of time to salvage your last half an hour of the working week. So before you try to nonchalantly drop another box of paperclips into your bag on your way out the door, and to give you an excuse to not open that semi-important file of work you’ve just received here we are with episode thirty-two of our weekly video feature. And to tie you over ’til the little hand falls bang on the five we’ve got not one, not two, but three clips for you to enjoy.

Firstly, a quick twelve second clip for you, and one which would be the main draw of this week’s Viva Video episode, were it not for the frustrating fact that we’ve used it before. Never has it been more apt than it would be this week though, because I was torn for a subject for this week’s video. On one hand, thanks to Elliott Ward’s glorious debut goal we had the subject of spectacular bicycle kicks, and on the other hand there was this week’s upcoming opponents Queens Park Rangers. And the only obvious thing to do was put those hands together and bring you this…

Sadly though, as I mentioned before, we’ve already brought you that clip once before and we always strive to bring you something new and enjoyable within this section. And a dogged determination to stick to that mantra means that we are also unable to settle with providing you the entertaining spectacle of Rovers knocking the ball around Queens Park Rangers like they were cones on a training ground. When the two sides met in November at the Keepmoat Stadium in November Rovers were so in control that they spent a period of the second half toying with Rangers with constant posession. A thirty-plus pass move was the highlight, but alas we’ve already brought you that clip. Ah well, once more won’t hurt. Altogether now Olé… Olé… Olé… Olé… Olé… Olé… Olé… Booooo…

Finally then we get to the main video of this week’s edition and after including that last clip I suppose we should make amends to our upcoming opponents with some classic Queens Park Rangers action from seasons passed. There are compilations of QPR moments featuring better goals than the collection we’ve plucked for, but then they didn’t have as good a soundtrack as this one. It’s a dog eat dog world on Viva Rovers I’m afraid when it comes to backing tracks. So alas, there is no Les Ferdinand thunderbolt, nor a mazy Roy Wegerle dribble against Leeds, not even Clive Allen spinning round the West Ham United defence like a dancer round a pole. Instead what you get is Phil Mickelwhite playing a one-two of the Crewe goalkeeper’s face, but some music by The Specials makes it all OK.
