Is that how you write fifty-nine in Roman Numerals? No, I’m not sure either. Excuse the rustyness here, but we elected to take a mid-season break from Viva Video to mirror the inadvertant one forced on Rovers by the weather. But like Brian Stock we can only stay away for so long, and so here we are once again with probably the longest running feature in Rovers related website history. It’s no hard sell I know, but at least we try.
If you’re new to Viva Rovers, allow me to take the opportunity to pad out this feature by explaining its concept. In short we celebrate the end of each week by bringing you a video clip we like, which is relevent to the Rovers. It may feature Doncaster in action, or as with today’s case the weekend’s coming opponents may be the focus. Either way, we are essentially bringing you another way to while away the working hours. This week Rovers visit Derby County, a team which they have defeated in their last four meetings and a team struggling with manager Nigel Clough the focus of a widening media spotlight.
Of course Nigel Clough is often hindered and pressured by one great looming presence in Derby, that of his father. Clough Snr brought tow League titles to unfashionable County in the early 70s and the club has never managed to reach those heights again. Every subsequent manager has done their job in Clough’s shadow, and for Nigel comparisons will of course be drawn much more often, and its an unfair additional pressure which he will probably never escape as lazy journalists continue to mark him against his father. Anyway, enough of that, here’s a clip of a Brian Clough teamtalk depicted in the film the The Damned United.
