After last week’s very enjoyable delve into the archives we’re back into the age of colour again for the latest edition of Viva Video. The return to league action also allows us to swing the focus onto this weekend’s opponents. Queens Park Rangers come to the Keepmoat Stadium tomorrow so it would be rude not to acknowledge our fellow hoop wearers in this section.
QPR have enjoyed their best years in the age of television with arguably their most successful period coming in the 1970s and 1980s. As such there was much to choose from when it came to selecting this week’s clip. There were the long haired mavericks of the 70s such as Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh and even Gerry ‘don’t look at the camera’ Francis. And then there were Rangers fantastic plastic years in the 80s which included a Cup Final appearance in ’82.
Typically though, I’ve ignored all this. Because when you’re of a certain age and you’re asked to think of a goal by Queens Park Rangers you will always pluck for this one. Sir Les of Ferdinand may have scored a couple of belters in the mid 90s but they pale in significance when compared to this memorable goal. Certainly the best bicycle kick ever scored on these shores, and against Barnsley too. The sort of goal you dream about celebrating never mind scoring. Take it away; Trevor Sinclair.
