Viva Video XLVII

Its been a whole two weeks since Rovers’ last outing on a football pitch away at Sheffield United and so we felt we should reward your patience with a double-headed edition of Viva Video. This weekend its a second successive Yorkshire derby (third if you adhere to the BBC’s geography) as Barnsley make the short pit pony trot across the county and so for your eyes only here’s two Barnsley/Rovers related videos.

Lets face it, the less said about last season’s two clashes with the Tykes the better, I personally still have waking nightmares about the game at Oakwell that Jermaine Campbell-Ryce is going to run and run at me and ruin my projected t-shirt sales and nothing I throw at him will halt his progress. It was a definite low point was that game.

However, in seasons before that matches againts Barnsley had brought us nothing but joy, with Rovers wins a plenty and some brilliant refereeing by South Yorkshire’s own Uriah Rennie. His willingness to dismiss Barnsley players in the 2005/06 season making him one of only two referees I have ever known have their name chanted (positively) at a Rovers fixture. Altogether now; “Walking along, showing red cards, walking in a Rennie wonderland”. Anyway, I digress, as our first video is not of that season but of the one before. Two games against Barnsley for the Rovers, two wins and seven goals. Here they are in all their glory, though in regards to the first three you may have to take our word for it.

Our second video pre-empts another Doncaster v Barnsley match taking place tomorrow, though this time its the supporters on the pitch. The Donny R’sonists are returning to where it all began tomorrow as they head back to their original Cantley Park ground to take on the Barnsley Supporters side. The match kicks off at 10:30am if you’ve nowt better to do with your Saturday mornings, and to try and entice you down, here’s the best of the action from last year’s fixture. The R’sonists are in red; check-out the defending at 3:52
