Spurs Is On – Carling Cup 2nd round draw

Harry Redknapp is delighted with the draw

Harry Redknapp is delighted with the draw

Never mind the terrible headline, altogether now; “Spurs are on their way to Keepmoat”. Rovers have been drawn at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the 2nd round of the Carling Cup, a match which, having scanned the rest of the draw, could well bring a live television date for the Rovers.

It will be the first time the two sides have met since a League Cup 5th round tie at White Hart Lane in the 1975-76 season. Although Spurs triumphed 7-2 that night, many of the local London papers are believed to have carried the headline ‘Lucky Lucky Spurs’ as Rovers led the match 2-1 at the hour mark, then Pat Jennings pulled off a brilliant save from a Chris Balderstone volley and subsequently everything Spurs hit found the net in the final half an hour. A lesser site would tail off now with promises of ‘exacting revenge’, but as it was thirty years ago it seems a little pointless. Still, an opportunity to piss off Harry Redknapp is always welcome so consider that a more topical motivation.
