If you’re owt like me, you’ll be a tad excited about the new season. After three months of for the main part unsubstantiated transfer rumours masquerading as breaking news or exclusives its good to get back to some actual football. And the best bit about it is that at this point in time, on the dawn of the new season reality is yet to bite, we are all potential promotion sides waiting to be unleashed on the rest of the division.
As excited as I am now, and I am actually pretty damn excited, its not on a par with this time last season. Rovers were set to embark on their first season in the second tier of English football for half a century and the anticipation and celebration of this fact encouraged 3,000 Doncastrians to pack the away section at Pride Park. This, combined with 30,000 home fans and a hard-worked and well-earned 1-0 win made for a crackling atmosphere at times. So to get you in the mood for Vicarage Road, let us go back a year to Derby, and the moment the Rovers were officially back.
