Run of the Mills

Maybe we should have relaunched the site as Viva Mills instead, given that almost every Rovers related news story I stumble across lately seems to be related to the central-defender. The latest genuine news concerning Mills is that he has made his first match appearance since knee surgery which is a welcome boost ahead of the new season. Mills featured in a behind closed-doors fixture with Chesterfield at Cantley Park this week and came through the game fine by all accounts.

As for the gossip speculations Middlesborough have become the latest club to be linked with Mills, the Teeside club join a who’s who of recent and potential yo-yo clubs in the apparent pursuit of the defender; Birmingham, Wolves, Burnley adn of course Nottingham Forest. The Tricky Trees’ inflated sense of worth is continuing though with the Vital Nottingham Forest website still viewing the acquisition of Mills as something of a formality.

“Forest were the only club with a confirmed bid in for the 23 year old Centre Half and were in the box seat to sign him for a tidy £1.5m.  The question now, is whether NFFC will up the anti and match the offer on the table from [Middlesborough]… [Mills is] worth more than our £1.5m bid as well and will be worth a hell of alot more with another good Championship season under him next term. With this in mind, it might be an idea to up our offer and get the deal done.”

I know that its normal for fans to have a favourable opinion of their own club, but some Forest fans need to accept that at current their club do not really represent a step-up career wise for a Doncaster Rovers players.

  1. I have to say I do not want any of our players to go and certainly not the coveted ones (they are not coveted for nothing). That’s always been my thought process. Reluctantly and if it suited the stability of DRFC then it was always Mills for me that COULD be released and replaced more easily (of the 3 conveted players). Since this thought process we have lost Wellens. I think Mills should and will stay. Another 1-2 seasons with us will see him develop more (maybe captaincy) and his value increase. A good comparison would be Jagielka. The nerve/fear level has risen in my house this last day with all the Boro talk. One must consider they now have £12m to spend. I would imagine on paper they have some decent CH’s in Pogatez, Huth and our old mucker and the excellent Wheater yet they leaked goals a plenty.
