The summer is here, and with no major international championship taking place football based websites are becoming the barren tundra’s of the online sporting world. As usual I exagerate and digress, but it is worth noting how sites try and get around the distinct lack of actual news.
Here on Viva Rovers we’ve gone for the recent nostalgia approach and in the run up to the release of next season’s fixtures we’re currently working through a month by monthd aily review of the 2008-09 season. Over on the official site the’ve taken a more media freidnly approach and are running through brief videos of the top ten moments of the season to a background of generic mid 90s techno dance music.
This rare free view into the RoversWorld archives has been both welcome and entertaining, and on Wednesday it also became quite revealing. On this forum and others Martin Woods’ strike at Nottingham Forest has been held up as the Rovers’ goal of the season, a glorious chipped finish after a neat flowing move. This week’s video helps cement that goals palce at the top of the tree.
Thanks to some curious editing the goal is now available in full on the Rovers website. Having shown Rovers’ first, third and fourth goals from the City Ground the video cuts back to the moment Rovers win posession in the lead up to Martin Woods’ strike. Eighteen passes and one rippling net later the City Ground pitch hosts a celebratory pile of blue and white hoops and a goal’s legendary status is secured. So here its is… although perhaps best enjoyed with the sound down.
