The new season Championship fixtures are out… yes… already, and always seventh with the news, Viva Rovers finally brings you details of Rovers’ schedule for the 2009/10 season. As with Doncaster’s last campaign the season will start and end on the road for Rovers’ fans with a trip to face Watford on August 8th and a final day jaunt to South West Wales to face Swansea City on May 2nd. The latter of course will no doubt be rendered unattendable for many Rovers fans to satisfy Sky Sports demands.
The South Yorkshire derbies against Sheffield Wednesday have both been scheduled for midweek in early December and mid-February. Rovers will face their other county rivals back to back with a trip to Brammall Lane and home game against Barnsley either side of the October international break, and the return fixtures on successive Saturdays in March. Although the March dates are split by the significant prospect of a midweek home tie against Newcastle United.
Rovers will also face the other two sides relegated from the Premier League in midweek fixtures, hosting Middlesborough at the end of January and making the trip to West Brom in the middle of September. Back to the local derbies and Rovers will make the short hop to Glanford Park to face Scunthorpe in late September, whilst the return fixture in the M180 showdown will be Rovers final home game of the season at the end of April. Rovers first home game of the new season will be a match with Preston on August 15th.
Thats probably as much as we can bring you before being taken out by a Football League sniper… indeed a suspiciously blacked out car has now circled the block twice so I’ll probably end this article here. Full fixture list details can be found on the club’s official website
