Viva Video XV

hope you people realise how difficult its getting to find different and relevent footage for this feature as it chalks up another week. Thought not. Anyway, we’ve reached number fifteen which means two things, firstly that we’ll be testing my limited knowledge of Roman Numerals soon, and secondly that unused footage of Doncaster Rovers on the internet is becoming increasingly scarce.

Fear not though, as we can always turn our attention to the opposition, as we do this week. Bloomfield Road, like Home Park, and Celtic Park is a ground which though still in the same place it has always been is frankly unrecognisable from its former self. Those going to Rovers’ match at Blackpool this weekend will experience a half completed stadium, which like our own home lacks much of the character and individualism of football grounds past.

Thankfully here at Viva Rovers we can delve into the past of Bloomfield Road and remind you what football grounds used to look like thirty years ago. An archive of cine film footage of former football grounds has just been uploaded onto the internet and it includes Bloomfield Road amongst it’s subjects. So we can look back at a simpler time of vast terraces, corrugated iron roofs and skeletal iron floodlight towers. Time to get all sentimental…
