Rovers will soldier on with their original planned run-in despite a trio of international call-ups. Despite much rumours and thoughts to the contrary Rovers’ match with Oldham Athletic will still take place at the Keepmoat Stadium on Easter Monday (24th March). With three Rovers players, Brian Stock, Stephen Roberts and the on loan Stuart Elliott all called up for international duty just two days after the Oldham fixture there had been a case put forward for a postponement.
However, with Wales manager John Toshack allowing Stock and Roberts to meet up with the rest of the Wales squad on Monday evening for the trip to Luxembourg instead of the original Monday morning arrangement Rovers will now face the Latics as planned. Oldham themselves have been granted the same dispensation from Toshack with their captain Neal Eardley joining Stock and Roberts in the Wales squad that evening.
