Rovers have opened up a world of puns with the appointment of a new goalkeeping coach. Lee Butler has been announced as Rovers’ new goalkeeping coach this week; filling the role recently vacated by Baz Richardson’s move to Nottingham Forest. Butler joins Rovers from Halifax Town having vacated his coaching role with the Shaymen at the start of the week.
The former Wigan, Villa and Barnsley keeper will be recognisable to most Rovers fans having enjoyed a ten match spell with the Rovers during the club’s Conference years in 2002. Lee’s time with the Rovers was sandwiched between two periods with Halifax Town for whom he would come back to haunt Rovers with two heroic performances against Donny putting a dint in the club’s promotion challenge in 2002-2003.
Born locally, Lee began his career at nearby Harworth Colliery Institute before joining Lincoln City as a twenty-year-old. Now back in Doncaster Butler will work with the club’s senior keepers Neil Sullivan and Ben Smith as well as the upcoming youth keepers.
