It was a case of ‘taff luck’ for the Rovers Belles as they exited the FA Women’s Cup at the fifth round stage at the hands of Cardiff City Ladies. Doncaster will have more time to concentrate on the campaign to stay in the FA Tesco Premier League after their FA Women’s Cup campaign came to an end in South Wales. The Belles went out in extra time to fellow Premier League side Cardiff City after a close match at Jenner Park, home of Barry Town.
Things began well for the Belles when they went ahead through Veronica Cantoro after fourteen minutes. However the hosts turned the match around by virtue of a goal from Nicola Cousins and an 85th minute strike by Loren Pykes that looked to have secured a place in the last eight. However a last minute strike from Liz Hansen forced the tie into extra-time.
Sadly the Belles stay of execution in the competition was an all too brief one; ten minutes into extra time Loren Dykes grabbed her second of the game and the Welsh side hung on to progress to the quarter finals.
