Smith to Extend Bank Loan

A tedious headline yes, but then it does herald something approaching breaking news so pause before you judge me. Goalkeeper Ben Smith looks likely to extend his loan spell at Lincoln City for an additional month. The young keeper has impressed both the management and the fans of the League Two club since joining them in mid November, helping the Imps to move out of the division’s relegation places.

Speaking to the Lincolnshire Echo Smith himself is clearly keen to stay at City and expects to be there for a while longer; “I’m really enjoying it. I’ve settled in and for the next month, once Doncaster agree to it, I want to try and help [Lincoln] pick up a few more wins”. Having been relegated to a spot on the bench thanks to the arrival of Neil Sullivan at the Keepmoat Stadium, Smith is clearly relishing the chance of first team football. “It is brilliant for me personally and I will continue to give my all to the team which I have been doing.”

As positive as a move it may be for Ben Smith, is this a sensible idea for Rovers to be loaning out their goalkeeper cover as the Christmas fixtures approach?
