The Rovers Belles recent good run of results came to an end on Merseyside late tonight after they went down to a 3-1 defeat to Everton at the home of Marine FC. Kick-off at Rossett Park had been delayed until 9pm, but the wait hadn’t halted the Belles enthusiasm as Doncaster took an early lead; Vikki Stevens with a left footed finish after six minutes.
However, by half-time the advantage had swung the other way thanks to two goals from Emily Westwood. The first was a header from an inswinging Michelle Evans free-kick, the second came via another Evans delivery but this time it was less direct. Lindsay Johnson headed Evans corner toward goal, but Belles’ Emma Thomson blocked the shot on the line only for Westwood to fire home the rebound.
In the second half the home side settled on their lead and took control of the game adding a third goal from Jill Scott who finished from the edge of the box for a 3-1 win. The defeat leaves Rovers in ninth place the FA Tesco Womens Premier League, but the recent run of good results has put some daylight between them and the relegation places
