Doncaster Rovers Belles 2-2 Watford Ladies

Doncaster Rovers Belles recovered from the disappointment of their midweek derby defeat to Leeds to secure an impressive point against second placed Watford in the FA Tesco Women’s Premier League.cThe Belles might have feared the worst as they went two goals down in the opening quarter of an hour on Keepmoat Stadium pitch 2; with Emma Thomas grabbing both of Watford’s goals.

However they were back in the match just before half-time as Liz Hansen’s free-kick took a deflection to wrong-foot the visitors’ keeper to reduce the deficit to one. And then with thirteen minute remaining Hansen was fouled in the penalty area and Vicky Exley scored from the resulting penalty to level the match. It could have been even better for the Belles with Carla Cantrell and Emily Heckler coming close late on, but the match finished level, continuing the Belles strong record against the top sides, after last week’s victory over leaders Bristol.
