Ruby Ruby Ruby Rovers!

Light the candles folks as Doncaster Rovers celebrate their fortieth anniversary. As you may have guessed this is not the 40th birthday of the red and white hooped Rovers to which this site is dedicated, but instead this week sees the 40th anniversary of our Australian namesakes; Doncaster Rovers Soccer Club.

Formed in 1967 for the population of Doncaster and Templestowe in the suburbs of Melbourne, the Aussie Doncaster Rovers have thrived during their relatively short existence and can now boast over forty junior teams in their set-up. The club share more with our own Rovers than just a name though as they too have had to overcome arson to make it to this milestone. The club have suffered three fires at their home grounds over the years, although there are yet to be any stories of ex-benefactors, ex-SAS men or mobile phones connected to any of them.

Visit the Doncaster Rovers SC website for more on our antipodeian equivalents.
